I just heard the full version of this song. WOW is all I can say. I had shivers as I was listening to it. I'm guessing that when she said some of the songs would have insights into what was going on in her private life this is most definitely one of those songs. I guess things weren't as wonderful as we thought they were. I've listened to the whole album and it is spectacular. In my opinion not as good as Bliss (my favorite Vanessa album) but better than Divinidylle (which I love). Well done Vanessa and Mr. Biolay! When I first heard The Dark it Comes, I thought I was eavesdropping on Vanessa and Johnny. The song was not written by Vanessa or Johnny. It was written by Carl Bârat. I don't think it is totally about them because in the end of the song Vanessa sings "she's nothing to us she's no longer around." We know that isn't true because "he" is still dating "her." The man in the song was contrite and said that "she" was a drunken mistake. We know that "he" does not feel that way. To me the song was sad. I will try to write down the lyrics so everybody knows what we are talking about. I know Vanessa didn't write the song but it must have struck a chord with her which is why she included it on the album. I also believe it's not totally about them either. In my opinion I don't think it refers to the "her" we're thinking of. It very well could be but I think it's about someone else. Before we knew what was going and the split was officially announced it was said that Johnny and Vanessa had been having problems and living apart for quite awhile and tried to reconcile but it didn't work. According to "close sources" "she" supossedly didn't come into the picture until they were over for good. That's why I think it's about someone else. Just my opinion. Here's the lyrics. I couldn't understand some of the words they were singing so I did the best that I could: The Dark It Comes (Carl Barat)
(Chorus) The sun rolls slowly down again The dark it comes though I can’t say when
Sweetness sit down I’ve got something to say I f****d up again in a terrible way I’m a long way from home I thought roam I’m afraid But I need you to remember the pact that we made
Tell me dear lover things can’t be that bad This won’t be the first time that you make me sad But if you have done what I think it may be Your words will be worthless and you will be free
(Chorus)
Love twisted me up with it’s petulant claws Now it haunts me to madness with the ghost of remorse She was an evil harlot who threatened our cause And now she lies here on the bathroom floor
Oh Lord please have mercy Oh what did you do? You did this to hurt me tell me it’s not true I know that you f****d her and that’s what it’s worth Was she better than me? Your heart must be cursed
(Chorus)
(Bridge) I’m lonely, I’ve lost her, I’m wild at sea Won’t you please let me in I can barely breathe I’m broken, I’m lonely, I’m lost as can be But darling, darling it has to be
I was lonely and foolish she was nothing to me Like a moth to a candle I was too drunk to see My sweetness, my sweetness I was just a boy And now I’m a killer my life is destroyed
Oh come to me baby she was nothing to us She’s no longer around it was just you’re drunk lust Whatever you did there’s a pact that we made From the day we first kissed ‘til we lie in our grave
(Chorus) The sun rolls slowly down again The dark is coming though I can’t say when

Thanks for the lyrics. My version was slightly different, but it was hard to understand some of the words. Benjamin's part was harder to understand than Vanessa's part.
When I first heard the song I also went Wow. I had to remind *myself* that Vanessa did not write the song. I did not mean that others did not know who wrote it.

It seems like whenever the breakup is mentioned this site eventually gets ugly. Many of us argue the same arguments over and over. Nobody ever changes their opinion and I doubt that anyone ever will. To me these arguments have become totally pointless. It amazes me that almost a year after the break up people still have such intense opinions. It's like we know Johnny and Vanessa personally and we feel the need to take sides. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everyone's opinion should be respected. I wish we could agree to disagree.
Here is a definition of agree to disagree for our non English speaking friends: It refers to the resolution of a conflict (usually a debate or quarrel) whereby all parties tolerate but do not accept the opposing position(s). It generally occurs when all sides recognize that further conflict would be unnecessary, ineffective or otherwise undesirable.
These comments were made as a general observation of this board.

Vanessa did not write the song, and what if the song was written earlier than 2012? we would never know, also people seem to forget that she had more boyfriends than Johnny... maybe they wrote the song for her and she felt identified with some old flame or just liked the lyrics, while I've always had my doubts about Johnny's faithfulness to Vanessa (even more now with the recent events) I do not think this song is for him.

I don't mean trouble and this is a genuine question. But why was it that you always doubted his faithfulness? He's one the least talked about celebrities. So why? In some interview,I don't remember whichone was it,Vanessa said lately that the songs were not written for her life. She said they may touch people but they're not for her.

The song is very sad...but it seems to written from either a man or womans point of view...maybe some line, some phrasing touched Vanessa and she chose to include it in the album. Some songs, there are just lines, or phrasing that mean something to me...but not the whole song.
Its lovely.

I haven't heard the song, but the some of the lyrics sound like the man killed his mistress: "She was an evil harlot who threatened our cause /And now she lies here on the bathroom floor" "And now I’m a killer my life is destroyed."
I guess this could be a metaphor for "killing" the relationship through cheating, but the lyrics taken at face value sound like the plot to a dramatic movie.

This is my favorite song of the album. Chou, I loved your interpretation for the "killer" part! I've written this lyrics some days ago when I first heard the song and some things I heard different.. like, it's "The sun will smoothly dawn again".. But anyway I couldn't not to think about Johnny and Vanessa's relationship either. Let's see what she will say about the song - because I have no doubts the media will ask her about it!

Popularity on media and tabloids has nothing to do with that, but I won't talk about it, people seem to get offended easily when you bring that to the talk, plus this is not the place, so I won't, and thankyou for that you say, that Vanessa says her songs lately are not written for her life.

That's ok Valentina! What about the lyrics in Rampart?? Media focused on that being about their break up.

Sounds like the "language" in French songs is very explicit.

Is "The Dark It Comes" in French or English? Some of the phrasing sounds like translation from French, but the end words rhyme en anglais. That doesn't usually happen when you translate lyrics.

Vanessa didn't write most of the songs, but she chose the songs and she may have given ideas to the songwriters. The order of the songs seems to be autobiographical. But I think she's leaving that for others to figure out, esp because of their kids.
It can't be just a coincidence that The Dark It Comes is closely followed by a song about Station Quatre Septembre, the station where Angelina filmed the first scenes of The Tourist. The station name is plain to see in the movie. I'm guessing the "she" who is no longer around in Dark is AJ, not the blond.

I didn't want to say it but I was thinking the exact same thing you did Bebe. The reason why I thought this is that I remember pictures we saw back when that movie was being filmed of Vanessa and the kids leaving on a boat. They were waving I assume to Johnny who was standing on the dock. Vanessa had tears in her eyes in those photos. Shortly after that we saw Vanessa and Johnny in what turned out to be their last public appearance together. Coincidence? Way back then when I saw those photos I had a feeling that something may have happened between him and AJ during the filming of that movie.

It's in english! really? that's unexpected but, I'd love to hear it, but of course Vanessa singing in french > english though.
