To call Vanessa an absent mother is utterly ridiculous and an insult to her as a mother, something she cherishes being above anything else. If she's an absent mother, then what was Johnny all those years when he would be off filming for multiple consecutive months for numerous movies? If we're going to follow the logic mentioned above, then I suppose he was an absent father? But alas, Johnny was never called out for a neglectful father. Such a double standard!
Also, how do we know Vanessa hasn't been around her children much this past year? Is there a way to detect her every move that I don't know about? There's too much jumping to conclusions and frankly I find it intolerable to speculate and judge Vanessa as a parent.

shellysmom....We all have different opinions, Okay!? My triplets are 14 and I don't say that they follow every rule. I know it's not easy to educate children nowadays, but it should be possible for parents to regulate a little bit such things like choices of clothes. That has nothing to do with if it's 1983 or 2013. But you're right, Lily Rose isn't my daughter. She was plenty of time filming, modeling and promoting all over the world last year, so she wasn't with her children and was indeed an absent mother for the time she was doing her jobs. But no one here said that she is a bad mom therefore.

jcd, actually Vanessa was called a bad mother. That was the headline of the article and people here agreed with it.
The world is not the same as it was in the 1980's. Everyone did not have the internet and instant access to celebrity children. These kids are under a microscope! Everywhere celebrity children go and everything they do is photographed and written about. I would not want my child to have the scrutiny that Lily Rose goes through. I would also not want my mothering skills criticized based on what people see and read on the internet.
Also, Los Angeles has it's own culture. I live in the U.S. in the midwest (middle part of the country) and the culture is different than it is in Los Angeles. People in Los Angeles are much more permissive. I would not want to live in L.A. but I do understand the culture is much different than other parts of the country.

I think there has been some misunderstanding here. I don't think any fan here called Vanessa a bad mother, but that seems to be what the others have infered. Just to explain my own comment,I only said that it's true she spent less time around the kids this past year b/c she has been busier than before, but that doesn't mean the kids didn't have supervision b/c Johnny was with them for a long period. Just like when Johnny made movies and Vanessa was with them. Also,it's true that it's the nature of their jobs that they spend time away from home which can potentially have some down-sides. It doesn't mean she's a bad mother or their kids will be unhappy,it's just a different lifestyle than the average person. I'm sure Vanessa's aware of the downside too and does her best to balance her time with the kids who are the most precious things she has in life and her career which she follows with passion. There's no need to feel offended if others point out the obvious challenge too. At least that was my point. Also, both Vanessa AND Johnny have taken large chunks of time out of their schedules to spend with the kids, I don't feel it's needed to knock one down to elevate the other.

shellysmom, especially because their kids are living in a goldfish bowle they, and I mean BOTH Vanessa and Johnny also, should more mind of what Lily wears in public. I would do. But it's just my opinion. I'm pretty sure they don't give a damn what other people are thinking about their livestyle, so it doesn't matter what tabloids or we're writing. And I never said, that Vanessa is a bad mom! Who am I to do so?

That was just a fact-finding. No more, no less!!! I'm far away being sexist, jeez!!!

It's just another tabloid rubbish stuff. Why we do argue about it so much? Not worth even attention.

A father would NEVER be called out in the media in this way. So Lily-Rose is simply Vanessa's daughter now and not Johnny's also? Vanessa dedicated many years to raising her children when they were babies, she strikes me as a wonderful mother and I am not just speaking as a fan, I believe that in a totally objective way. Women face such prejudice in society still, particularly when it comes to career/motherhood and that balance. I trust that she knows exactly what is best for her children, as does Johnny I'm sure.

Anyway I won't loose my time anymore with this stupid conversation and point of view that some Johnny's fans have. Have a good day I hate to be argumentative but it's a bit disrespectful to suggest anyone who holds a different opinion from yours is not a fan of Vanessa, and has a "stupid" point of view. Also,I think it's clear no one here agreed with the article and knew it was just nasty tabloid stuff, meaning the usual. the points of disagreement were about some minor differences of opinions, why so aggressive? I think people were just expressing their opinions on Vanessa' working schedule and the potential difficulty, which she herself talks about a lot! A father would NEVER be called out in the media in this way. So Lily-Rose is simply Vanessa's daughter now and not Johnny's also? . I don't quite agree with this. A recent example would be Tom Cruise who had to sue the tabloids for all the nasty stuff they were printing about him as a father. Far be it from me to defend the tabloids but there's no need to put a label on it,or call other people sexist just so they shut up about their opinion( I know you didn't). Tabloids are not nice to anyone, men ,women, children, etc. If they were nice for a while to Vanessa's family it was b/c it sold well then. But nasty stuff are just their habit,it's nothing personal against anyone or a certain group. I say that b/c looking at it that way is far less frustrating.

the sexism in this is extremely pathetic, so Johnny has been doing this for 14 years (only now he is spending more time with the kids) he was always working full time in 2 or 3 movies per year and going to other countries, rarely took them with him, he spent months away from them (said by himself during the potc days...) yet he was a 10/10 father (I'm not saying he was a bad father just trying to point out the sexism in this), Vanessa started basically since last year working a lot, she is a bad mother, and also a bad mother because she doesn't tell her to dress better, yet Johnny is spending more time with her (now that Vanessa is working "24/7") but he doesn't tell her to dress better neither, yet Vanessa is a horrendous mother, cool story bro.

How about you all quit judging one parent over the other based on nothing but a pathetic gossip magazine.
You are all as equally pathetic to lower yourself to that standard.

Johnny took the children with him in London when he shot Sweeney Todd for example and on several other sets. They visited him in Venice for The Tourist and in Hawaï for POTC4. And we don't know all their journeys beside their father.
Johnny and kids were also with Vanessa during Bliss and Divinidylle tour.
