Being in pieces.
Even if the shooting lasted just 17 days, Vanessa Paradis keeps several happy memories from it.
"Jean-Marc Vallée and I, have filmed a lot in the streets of Paris. He went for a walk with his little camera in his hand. We discovered streets together. I remember this day, when we had to film in the cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris. We had to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning in order to film all scenes before the morning masses. Everything, in this place, is impressive. It was magical ! "
Faithful to his habit, JM Vallée punctuated his shooting days with music. Sometimes, the film-maker puts on music for all his team, a music or a melody. It's in order to create a special atmosphere on the set for the next scene.
"I've never worked like this before, emphasizes Vanessa Paradis. It's a technique which often is used by music producers, but not really for the cinema."
The actress took the exercise seriously : she also has suggered to listen several chorus. Can she give us an exemple of her musical selection ?
"Ah no, it's personnal! Let's say it was , above all, French cabaret singer-songwriters from the sixties."
In the name of the Rose.
The film is about two parallel stories, and the shooting took place on two continents, the French idol didn't grab the chance to act with the Québécois actors, except one day with Evelyne Brochu, who met her on the set in Paris.
The Quebecker actress remembers their meeting : " It was the day of my Birthday. The hairdresser was doing my hair. Vanessa had already seen the 10 first minutes of the film. She recognized my face and said to JM Vallée, with using my character's name: "You introduce me Rose?"
Our meeting was great, it happened very well, and I did not believe it happened like that. I thought that I was intimidated. For me, she is an icon, for her style and for her soul too. I admire the way she expresses herself, how she get dressed, acts and sings. It finally was a sweet meeting. I couldn't ask better for a Birthday present. It was a great honour for me to meet her."
Vanessa finally met the rest of the shooting team at the time of her last passage, in february, for the Festival Montréal en Lumière.
Paradis remembers :" I lived this evening with a lot of happiness. Even if I met most of them for the first time, it was huge reunion. I had the feeling that I knew the team for a long time."
A team that she will meet again this month, Vanessa will come back to Québec in order to defend Café de Flore in front of several journalists. We hope that none of them will speak about Johnny Depp to her...

"Journalists always ask me to make a choice between music and cinema. It's a little silly. What I like, exactly, it's that I needn't to make a choice. I love cinma with passion, but I spend more time in doing music."
We notice that, since her beginnings, she knew how to be well supported for music ( Étienne Roda-Gil, Serge Gainsbourg, Lenny Kravitz ) and for cinema ( in front of the camera with Gérard Depardieu, Jean Reno, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Daniel Auteuil ). " It simple, it means that we have the same tastes", she says.
