A little translation ? ;D
It's a surprise to find you in a Anne Le Ny's movie. How was your meeting ?I had not read the script of Cornwall yet, so I didn't exactly about what it was. I was just shaken by "Ceux qui restent", her first feature film, and I found Vincent Lindon and Emmanuelle Devos were even more exceptional under her management.
What I liked with her, it was her "working force" and her curiosity. She told me she enjoy reading with actors. These readings allow her to dig the subject with them. I was attracted by that because in music or cinema, that's exactly what I seek.
I haven't shot a lot of movies, so I feel as if I had not enough practice. And the idea of working with a film director who would want more than my natural, but would dig within myself, it enchanted me.
These days, in movies, we often saw you without make-up. Do you need to break your "image of icon"?No, 'cause I don't live with this image. For 25 years, I make music, concerts, movies... and a lot of covers of magazines. I'm conscious of my mediatic image, it's strong, and sometimes it's stronger than my work. And I understand perfectly that it can "disturbs" many people. In particular, directors, who want to see their character in an actor, or entrust it to a more malleable performer. So I thought it was brave that Anne trusted in me, in my capacity for work.
What kind of woman is Odile, your character ?She is the stereotype of the working girl. Without any links, whitout husband or children, she has very rooted ideas about freedom and about her way of life. But she also try to forget her pains which are hidden within her.
Are you like her ?I'm an independant woman, but I need people I love. And, contrary to Odile, I open up to the life 'cause I enjoy being surprised. We all have things that we want to forget, but personally, I think I don't have hidden traumatisms.
This movie is an ode to Brittany. Did iodine influence your acting ?Absolutely. The air you breath over there shakes you from head to toes. The weather has an influence or your body, 'cause the wind knocks over you, the rain waters you, and you're burnt by the sun. And then, it's captivating when you constantly see the horizon from the top of cliffs. Inevitably, in such beautiful, strong and intense landscapes, it has an influence on your character.
Odile is a Parisian woman, who come to Brittany in order to sell quickly a house, an inheritance. Elements set on her, and oblige her to open up to the exterior. (??)
With a lot of legends from Brittany, the movie also includes ghosts in its story. Is it the same acting with the dead and with the living ?You have to pay attention to how you describe these ghosts ; the spectators must have the choice to interpret them as they want.
Anne Le Ny has decided them to be real characters, but the dead could have been voices because they translate what my character has in her mind. Anyway, it has influenced my acting 'cause with them, Odile doesn't cheat, she is herself, she listens to what they have to say, and she asks them questions.
And what about you ? What kind of relationship do you have with death ?I'm not serene, but fatalistic. And if I could be able to contact beloved people who are gone, I would do it.
You made four movies this year. Do you have the choice to make more cinema ?(??)No, I drreamt of recording an album, but "the chance of meetings" (??) did that I was offered, at the same time, many projects that I couldn't refuse. After having discussions with Jean-Marc Vallée, Anne Le Ny, Cécilia Rouaud and Delphine Kreuter, I immediately understood I wanted to make their movies.
Do you cause these meetings, or do you trust in fate ?For music, I "provoke" meetings, but for cinema, I have the chance to see that there are people who come to me. But everything isn't won in advance ! (??) I have to convince directors, having an interesting point of view about their movies, showing that I feel involved in the project and I have to bring out something to their story. Directors are like everybody, they need to be at ease.
Did the success of "the Heartbreaker" change something in your career as a film star. Now that I'm older, there are more various roles. But it's true that I was proposed a lot of nice characters after "The Heartbreaker". When you act in a movie which had a huge success with 4 millions of spectators, people look at you, hear you, and you finally are a part of their everyday life. In order to convince directors, it's better than giving concerts.
Did you want to start a career in Hollywood, where you were living ?I'm so spoilt in France that I needn't to do that (??). With music, I already go beyond European borders. And then, starting a career as an actress inthe USA requires a lot of time. But, I want to live I want to be a mother (??); Anyway, if they seek me, they know where I can be found.
What did you learn about your "job" of actress since "Noces Blanches" ?When I shot this movie, directed by Jean-Claude Brisseau, I was 17 and I acted with my instinct. Beyond the actress, I'm a woman who lives in present and, above all, who is a mother. So, I'm less "selfish", I've got more experience and I feel more relaxed. Even if you always have doubts, uncertainties and if you get nervous, when you're 40, you live with more serenity.
Your daughter is the same age as you when you began music. Does she have an artistic desire ?I am moved when I think about that. It was marvellous to live this adventure when I was 14 : I wasn't prepared but it was good like that. And if I had to do it again, I would do 'cause I have absolutely no regrets.
For my daughter or my son, it's different. Of course they have artistic desires, but I know the "downside", so I would advise them to take their time, in order to improve their art and start a career when they are ready.
Sorry if there are mistakes but I don't have the time to read what I have written...
Et n'hésitez pas à corriger les bêtises
, car je pense qu'il y en a pas mal...
