What is the secret to a successful interview with you ?
Having the ability to listen. Coming with sincere questions that come from you, if possible, and not from your boss.
Some interviews do not happen as they should. I can feel it, but how to analyze it ? We never know people's lives when
we meet, when we are speaking. Sometimes, I also talk with someone who has very specific ideas about what I have to answer.
So, I close myself as an oyster does, and nothing comes. That's stupid, isn't it ? An interview isn't a psychoanalysis.
Who wants to make a psychoanalysis in front of everyone ?

So you don't like these moments (interviews) ?
I don't like them, but they are necessary. If we release an album or a movie, we want people to listen to it, and to go to watch it.
So it's a question of responsibility. And we sometimes meet kind people with whom we want to have a nice chat. It's a good thing
in a day. It's like someone who smiles at you in the street.

In an interview, are there subjects that we cannot discuss with you ?
You can ask me anything you want, and I'll answer you just what I want. It's easy...

What was the challenge for this new album, Love Songs ?
I wouldn't say it was a challenge, but a desire. At the beginning, my company record asked for new songs. But I didn't want to be
under a single signature. I just was looking for THE song. And B.Biolay sent to me a bunch of eight songs in a single time, and it
was incredible. I had to sit down... The Benjamin's gift is amazing. In addition, we have very similar tastes in music. We agreed all
the time.

You have worked with "big names" (??) throughout your career. How it goes with your collaborations : you are chosen or you choose ?
In music, I could say I choose. But, you know, you can feel if someone wants to work with you, it gives you wings. In cinema, it's the contrary : I am chosen.

I've read that you felt legitimate as an actress when you shot The Heartbreaker, not before, why ?
For a long time, I didn't shoot a lot of movies. I made one movie, and I could stay without any shooting for several years. So, every time I shot a film,
I felt as if it was my first film, as if I had to relearn everything. But after The Heartbreaker, I've shot several times in the same year, and things have changed.

In music, do you feel legitimate ?
I'm more a performer than anything else, but in my register, and in what I can do, I feel legitimate. Of course, I'd like to be an author, a composer, a performer
and make the arrangements. But it's like that, I'm a performer. But I also love to be directed by the others. This is something that feeds me a lot.
We can leave far from our own world, it makes travel.

What do you like in your artistic life, what motivates you ?
Vibration. Even if I work in fashion, I feel even more as a performer than usual, when I work under the management of Karl Lagarfeld and his fantastic team,
I feel vibrations too. I'm very lucky to work like that !

Do you consider yourself as a popular singer ?
Yes, by force of circumstance (??). We all hope to make something that can be shared and enjoyed. Otherwise, something is missing ! (Laughs). Even if I don't produce Hits - except for Joe le Taxi - and if my songs are not broadcast to the radio at once, I sing French pop music. So I am a (pop)ular singer.

But you live abroad for a long time. People could have felt a distance between them and you ?
i don't live abroad all the time, but I've never spent more than three months without coming back to Paris ; otherwise my heart died. I need France.
And it surely helps to have several jobs - actress, singer, model... - 'cause you cannot put me in a box so easily. (??)

Do you still need to prove things to yourself ?
I wouldn't use the word "proof". You know, in this job, we always have to start all over again. It's not because you are already known that everything is won. In our job, there is no excuse. We must not be ill or sad, nothing at all... We must be performing as soon as we're on stage. I'd like to do theatre, for example. But not in order to prove something to myself. Just for doing it, and well.

Which period do you represent ?
I represent a lot of periods ! Saying that, it sounds "granny", but I've even participated to a Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier's emission in the eighties ! (Laughs) And one day, someone told me : "You are a singer from the eighties ! ". It hurt me, but, at the same time, that's true. I was very young but I was there. There was this period and the 2000s after. And I'm lucky that it goes on today.

What do you think about the world of today ?
I don't sing activist or political songs. This is not something that I would do very well. I wouldn't know how to defend them. I don't know how to talk about a cause or motivate people. I prefer using my hands and my voice. So, I have no political career ahead of me...

You've got a very privileged life. Don't you feel disconnected from reality ?
That's right, I have a very privileged life. I've never been short of anything (??). Never. I don't know what is it. But disconnected, no. Being involved, that's another thing. That's right, I'm not sure of being it very much. It always is difficult to succeed in life.

Are you satisfied by the place (life) you have today ?
Yes, very satisfied. Even if I don't know exactly what's this place, and I move all the time because of my job. But it doesn't matter. I think people don't care about the place I belong.

Do you sometimes imagine yourself if you had had another life ?
I didn't have the time to ask myself the question. When I was 12 years-old, I already was in the Franck Langolff's studio, I was amazed by this place, the magic of the sound, the talented musicians. When I was 5 years-old, I fall in love with musicals. I wanted to sing, dance, act... Which job could group together all these things ? Or else, I would have liked to be an acrobat or carry on a manual job as painting, working wood, clay...

Do you realize that you've become an icon (égérie) ?
Obviously, I'm in the people's everyday life for so long time, we went through decades together ! People saw me as a teenager, young girl and woman... I'm like "point of reference" for the public. And it doesn't always refer to what I make in my artistic life. But I that's very flattering. Even if, as in love, we prefer being loved with a love that burns you guts, and not as an habit (??). (don't know how to translate "...que par habitude...")

I've read that you've said : "For people, I was like a little "performing monkey" who became an icon"...
That's right, it has been extreme. Everything has changed for me when I shot "Noce Blanche". After so violent beginnings, having so much kindness and love today, that's not banal. As for the word "icon", I don't use it, but those are journalists. But if it means that people can feel inspired by me, it's very pleasant.

But how icons grow old ?
Icons don't move, I like when it moves so much ! They stay inside their wooden frame, and the time doesn't go by anymore. Whereas, about me, it won't happen like that. Or else, I have to die right now ! (Laughs) No, don't write that, my parents will be scared...
