Duet Vanessa/Johnny

This will be kind of a strange duet if she is singing Serge's part and Lulu is singing "Melody's" part. Interesting role reversal.

It is a bit disappointing that Johnny is only providing instrumentals, but I'm not too surprised. I'm sure he'll be great on the guitar.

Distinguished guests can be any or all of the famous collaborators... but certainly, I think, Vanessa would be one of the more likely to attend (over say Johnny or Scarlett Johannson haha)... I think the upcoming one in Paris would be the most likely, if she can't make a trip to Brussels, etc. (OK, I have no clue where the ones in November and December are, but I'm not worried about those yet when there's one coming up in August).

I think Johnny did only a quitar, because after "Sweeney Todd..." he said "i will never do singing again", but he maid change his mind.

Thanks Noemie, I love that song (although not quite as much as I love La Ballade) but I wish Scarlett had tried to sing it in French, would have worked much better I think, & they're not extremely difficult lyrics to sing. Oh well at least we know Vanessa will definitely stick to the original!

Ils reprennent L’histoire de Melody Nelson, mais ont inversé les rôles…

Si l’on parle souvent de casting d’invités sur l’album de Lulu Gainsbourg, lui préfère les termes d’affinités musicales et amicales. “J’ai une histoire à raconter sur chaque artiste, et ça peut être long !”, sourit-il. “Ce que je voulais était très précis, très spécifique. Certains artistes n’ont pas répondu, ou n’ont pas pu. Comme Stevie Wonder, par exemple. Bonnie and Clyde avec Scarlett Johansson, ça me semblait évident quand on sait qu’elle a fait un album sur l’époque Bardot-Gainsbourg… Requiem pour un con, étrangement, je savais que ça serait très difficile à reprendre. L’original est tellement top ! Je l’ai proposé à Matthieu Chédid parce que c’est un créateur et qu’il s’est approprié le morceau.”

Quant à Vanessa Paradis et Marianne Faithfull, qui avaient travaillé avec le père avant de se frotter aujourd’hui au fils, elles n’ont pas hésité à rejoindre le projet. “Vanessa a dit oui tout de suite parce que c’est un album hommage. Idem pour Marianne. Si ça a ravivé des choses, c’est plus pour elles que pour moi… qui n’étais pas là.”

Finaud, Lulu sourit en coin quand on évoque le duo Johnny Depp/Vanessa Paradis, qui se répond en chanson sur Melody Nelson. “Johnny est un musicien à part entière. Il en a l’âme, c’est un sacré personnage. C’est lui qui a refait la musique. Et au niveau des voix, je trouvais ça amusant d’inverser les rôles : Jane qui est reprise par Johnny et mon père qui est repris par Vanessa. Mais c’est vrai que c’est une sacrée première d’avoir les deux en duo.”
